5.1 Classifying Rocks


Vocabulary


texture- the feel and look of a certain rock's surface.
grains- what geologists call- the particles of minerals or other rocks that most rocks are made of.
igneous rock- forms from the cooling of molten rock (either magma below or above the surface.)
sedimentary rock- forms when the particles of other rocks or the remains of plants and animals are pressed and cemented together.
metamorphic rock- forms when an existing rock is changed by heat, pressure, or chemical reactions.
